"Legend of Twin Rocks" Original Watercolor Painting

Legend of Twin Rocks is a story from Onomea Bay. See the historical marker description above. I got to experience this site while visiting the Hawai'i Tropical Botanical Garden near Hilo. As one fellow visitor said- a phrase I'll never forget- "This place oozes with coolness. It's like a massage for the eyeballs". 

My technique started with a watercolor background, which I layered on top with bold gouache foreground foliage (the darker blues and greens you see at the bottom of the scene). Gouache is a medium similar to watercolor, but it's thicker and more opaque.
